Encrustation

A long time forager and packrat gatherer, my ever growing assortment of nature and random junk objects find a home in my work room to be incorporated into my art.

Much of my creating is inspired by a small jug I came across years ago in my travels. This jug was encrusted with simple objects belonging to a loved one who had passed. A chain, a lock of hair, a tooth, button, shell… I found a source that attributed this practice to enslaved people. In filling this encrusted jug with water, the love and thoughts of the family and friends would rise up to the heavens to join their loved one.
